Celebrating the achievement, innovation and ambition of our local industry, the WA Screen Culture Awards (WASCAs) will take place on Sunday 4 December at Luna Cinemas Leederville.
Embracing all forms of new, established and emerging screen practices, Awards will be presented across 22 categories at what promises to be an extra special evening hosted by comedian Joe White.

A semi-finalist on Australia’s got talent and seen on Sunrise on seven and ABC iView, Ethiopian – Australian comedian Joe White is a Fringe World award winner alongside Tom Gleeson and Tim Ferguson. Joe has won the Fringe World best comedy weekly award three years in a row and is a recipient of the West Australian comedy choice award. Joe White has been called “Down Under’s Trevor Noah” by the world-famous New York Post.
Raised by a single mum of six kids he has seen the ups and downs of life, so much so that he has learned to value the importance of laughter in life.
Arriving in Perth as a refugee at the age of 11 years old, Joe has experienced love, heartbreaks, success and failure.
Trying to find laughter in the midst of hardship has made him pick up comedy as his passion and no doubt one of his best life choices. Joe White has performed all over the world and has just returned from a 3 months tour of the USA where he performed at the world-famous Laugh Factory and the Improv in Hollywood.
WASCA Award Submissions are now closed (closing 1 November), with entries to be made via Film Freeway and the Special Award submissions via email.
Submissions are assessed by an independent panel of 30+ jury members made up of screen professionals from all industry sectors who are based outside of Western Australia. This includes the likes of director Richard Lowenstein, musician Bernie Lynch, film critic Simon Foster, actress Lucinda Cowden and filmmaker Justine Kerrigan ACS.
