In 1973 anthropologist Santiago Genoves selected five women and six men to undertake a unique experiment; they were to travel on a ‘raft’ across the Atlantic, driven only by the winds and currents.
The journey was scheduled to last three months and was designed to promote peace, but simultaneously Genoves was interested in the potentials for aggression and sexual tension amongst his subjects.
The tabloids took one look at the crew and their plan and nicknamed the vessel ‘The Sex Raft.’ Bringing together intrepid participants, alongside archive footage of the journey across the ocean, The Raft is a remarkable documentary of a very unusual experiment.
