When did you last see a Russian space adventure film? If you’re thinking “never” then now’s your chance with this big budget, big screen experience.
Based on a true story, the film takes us back to 1985 as the Russian space agency desperately scrambles to rescue their crippled and abandoned space station Salyut-7 before America lay claim to it. Bringing back into service some of their cosmonaut heroes, the crew undergoes some nerve jangling training; their mission? Dock with the lifeless object that’s spinning hopelessly out of control toward Earth at hundreds of kilometres per hour, bring it back to life despite the literally frozen environment and reclaim the craft to continue its exploration of space.
What we get is a white-knuckle ride as anything and everything is thrown at these cosmonauts as they race against time to restore life to the dead station.
Salyut-7 is a huge experience, very, very exciting and comes with all the bells and whistles you’d expect from such a fantastic tall tale but true from the legendary past.
