Official Selection: Sundance
In Narcissister Organ Player, the American artist and performer Narcissister – whose work frequently explores gender, sexuality and racial identity – turns her gaze towards her family, and especially her mother. The results are a unique, personal film in which the performer examines her life and practice in relation to her family and family history.
As the film unfolds, the always masked Narcissister delves deeper into biography and performance, creating a vivid, rich hybrid work which shifts between a personal documentary about art and transformed/transforming identity and a performance film. The results are a work that is both evocative and poignant.
“What makes Narcissister so relevant now isn't what she finds in her vag, but rather what she does with it.” Garage
