FRI 12 JULY – SPECIAL LIVE PERFORMANCE BY NGARU POU

“We Were Dangerous” is a New Zealand film that celebrates the power of friendship against the odds. To mark this occasion, there will be a live performance on July 12 by the youth Māori cultural group, Ngaru Pou. Ngaru Pou aims to teach New Zealand youth about their cultural traditions and marks its 10th anniversary in 2024.

ABOUT WE WERE DANGEROUS

New Zealand, 1954, and a group of so called “delinquent” girls find themselves condemned to a remote institution on an isolated island. But Nellie (The Wilds Erana James), Daisy (Manaia Hall) and Lou (Nathalie Morris) are not giving up without a fight, rallying together to challenge the system in which they find themselves.

But the Matron (Rima Te Wiata) has other plans…

Combining a celebration of female friendship against the power of colonialism as a legislative, patriarchal and heteronormative force, We Were Dangerous is by turns dramatic, moving and funny.

Josephine Stewart-Te Whiu’s feature debut is a tight and effective movie, a celebration of women battling against the odds that never forgets its heart.
